After graduating from the University of Queensland, Dr. Khanbhai started his medical career as a junior resident in Brisbane before advancing his psychiatry training in the United Kingdom. He later returned to Sydney to complete his formal psychiatric training at Sydney Central Health District. With more than 20 years of experience in both public and private psychiatry, Dr. Khanbhai has developed specialised expertise in forensic psychiatry.

He is well-versed in diagnosing and managing a wide range of complex psychiatric conditions, including ADHD, anxiety disorders (such as generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, and social anxiety), mood disorders (such as depression and bipolar disorder), substance use disorders, and schizophrenia. His special interest in forensic psychiatry has given him significant experience in preparing criminal and medicolegal reports.

Currently, Dr. Khanbhai practices adult psychiatry in Sydney and is the Director of Psychiatry for an inpatient psychiatric unit in regional NSW. He is known for his empathetic, non-judgmental approach and commitment to providing evidence-based, personalised care to support his patients' recovery.
