Dr William Lugg
About
Dr Billy Lugg is a consultant psychiatrist whose clinical focus is the complex interface between physical and mental health — known as consultation-liaison psychiatry. He is committed to a pluralistic approach to care, which considers metabolic health as a foundational element rather than an afterthought. His particular clinical interest is ketogenic metabolic therapy (KMT) in the treatment of severe mental illness, and his overriding goal is to help people live fully rather than merely exist.
Dr Lugg has worked across a wide range of settings throughout Australia — including community, inpatient, emergency, crisis outreach, older persons, youth and medical/surgical environments — giving him an exceptionally broad foundation in adult psychiatry. He continues to work in a major public hospital in NSW, undertakes outreach in remote Northern Territory, and is involved in medicolegal work. His clinical experience spans psychosis, bipolar spectrum disorders, anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD and substance-related conditions. He holds additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, opioid treatment accreditation and aggression management. His academic contributions have been recognised by the RANZCP with two prestigious awards, and he has published multiple papers in peer-reviewed psychiatric journals.
