About
Dr. James Slade is a Canadian-born doctor and one of Australia’s most loved and recognized names in the field of natural therapies. With a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Brock University and a medical degree from James Cook University, Dr. Slade brings a unique blend of scientific training, personal resilience, and patient-centred care to his practice.
Originally drawn to psychiatry for its focus on mental health, he trained at Robina Hospital on the Gold Coast. However, the limitations of the traditional system quickly became apparent. “Psychiatry felt overly restrictive,” he explains. “I was committed to supporting people through mental illness, but I found myself constrained by a system where real outcomes were hard to come by.”
This tension led Dr. Slade to pivot into alternative and natural therapies, where he would go on to become Clinical Lead at one of Australia’s largest telehealth medical clinics.
Despite the scale of this work, he left to pursue a hybrid model of care—combining face-to-face and telehealth consultations, focused on ethical prescribing, patient relationships, high-quality products and raising natural therapies to a new standard. Today, Dr. Slade advocates for natural therapies that are Australian-grown, organic, free from contaminants like pesticides or PGRs, and held to the strictest therapeutic standards.
These beliefs now stand as the founding pillars of Mediflora Organic—a new kind of clinic built to challenge the status quo. Mediflora is more than just a medical service; it’s a reimagining of how natural therapies should be delivered in Australia. The clinic represents a shift away from high-volume, transactional models toward personalised, ethical prescribing rooted in quality, education, and trust. By combining face-to-face care with digital accessibility, and prioritising clean, sustainable Australian products, Mediflora is helping restore credibility and integrity to a space that has too often been misunderstood, exploited, or ignored
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Slade is also the founder of two major regional events that attract thousands of attendees each year. These festivals serve as platforms for mental health promotion, especially in rural communities where services are often lacking. “There’s a paradox in healthcare,” he says. “Sometimes you can do more for someone’s wellbeing through shared experience and connection than through any script you could write.
Now based in Byron Bay, Dr. Slade is focused on building a new model of healthcare that is holistic, sustainable, and rooted in genuine human connection. As an Authorized Prescriber and one of the most trusted voices in Australia’s natural therapies sector, he continues to push for systems that prioritise patients over process.
